Asia and the Pacific Incubator Conference - AAPIC 2007

The Role of Business Incubation in Fostering

 Innovation & Entrepreneurship in Asia

October 3-6, 2007 in Hanoi, Viet Nam

 Themes

The Asia and the Pacific Incubator Conference AAPIC 2007 marks the second annual event of its kind, building on the first regional workshop held in The Philippines in 2006. The overall goal of the workshop is to further develop and deepen cooperation among the Asia Regional Network of Business Incubators. Acknowledging the diversity of business incubation in the region, ranging from high technology incubation to grassroots and social incubation, including both highly experienced and emerging incubators, the workshop is built around a number of themes:

  •  Sharing experiences in designing and implementing national policy frameworks that support innovation and entrepreneurship

  • Leveraging information and communication technologies (ICTs) within business incubators to improve performance and increase the social and economic impact

  • Facilitating cooperation between business incubators, universities and other research and development bodies to encourage commercialization of ideas, technology transfer and the development of new markets

  • The role of business incubators in supporting the internationalization of tenant companies through co-incubation and soft landing programs

  • Incubation models for working with grassroots, social and rural entrepreneurs and small businesses

  • Exploring the challenges and opportunities for business incubation in Small Island Developing States, including the Pacific islands

The workshop targets policy makers working on issues related to innovation and entrepreneurship, business incubator and technology park managers, financiers and other key stakeholders and development partners. The workshop program is distributed shortly and is being organized in the following format:

Oct. 3: Experience in developing policy frameworks and business incubation models for economic and social development with lessons from across Asia

Oct. 4: Capacity building for business incubator managers and policy makers on issues including technology incubation, monitoring and evaluation of performance, and business incubation models for supporting social, rural and grassroots entrepreneurship
